What does a school counselor do?
Classroom LessonsA counselor is available to work with classrooms on character education, personal safety, and violence prevention.

Small GroupA counselor provides a number of groups throughout the school year, depending on need and availability.

IndividualA counselor is available to meet with students on an individual basis. Resources are also available for outside counseling services.

It is my pleasure to meet with your child on an as-needed basis. If your child continues to require counseling services, I will be happy to send home some outside counseling referrals.

- Parent/Staff support/consultation regarding student needs
- 504 Case Manager
- Member of Educational Team
- Member of Response to Intervention (RtI) Team
- Coordinator for Lena community outreach/service (holiday giving programs, etc.)
- Attend district sponsored trainings
- Attend trainings to maintain certification and licensure
- Staff in-service trainings on Suicide Prevention, Child Abuse Reporting, Confidentiality, Bullying, 504’s, Alcohol and Tobacco Policy, Harassment, Crisis Planning and Prevention, Homelessness, Stress Management, Homeless Concerns, Student Motivation, ADHD, Behavior RtI, and other subjects and necessary
- Research and curriculum development and planning for classroom presentations and counseling groups
- Facilitate Middle School Transitions for all 5th grade students and all 5th grade students on 504 plans
- Year end reporting for grant-related activities, clubs, peer tutoring, drug and alcohol education, etc.
- Building safety: member of the leadership team, sweeper for fire drills and lock downs/drills; various student duty/supervision
- Other duties as required
